What is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha yoga that emphasizes precision, alignment, and the use of props such as blocks, straps, and bolsters. Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, this style focuses on holding poses for longer periods to build strength, flexibility, and awareness.

Key characteristics include:

  • Detailed attention to body alignment in each posture.

  • Props to support practitioners of all levels and abilities.

  • A progressive approach, starting with foundational poses and gradually advancing.

  • Therapeutic benefits, often used to aid in recovery from injuries or health conditions.

It’s well-suited for those who want to deepen their practice safely, improve posture, and develop both physical stability and mental focus.

Our Clients Say

“After looking for ages for the 'right' yoga class for me, finally I came to an Iyengar Yoga class at Bija 6 years ago and never left... Within just a few classes, I found a quiet strength I didn't know I had. The precision, the focus on alignment, and the gentle guidance of the teachers helped me feel grounded - physically and emotionally. It's more than just exercise; it's a holistic healing practice for body, mind, and soul equally, that stays with me long after the class. This benefits not just me but my whole family"
