What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha yoga that emphasizes precision, alignment, and the use of props such as blocks, straps, and bolsters. Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, this style focuses on holding poses for longer periods to build strength, flexibility, and awareness.
Key characteristics include:
-
Detailed attention to body alignment in each posture.
-
Props to support practitioners of all levels and abilities.
-
A progressive approach, starting with foundational poses and gradually advancing.
-
Therapeutic benefits, often used to aid in recovery from injuries or health conditions.
It’s well-suited for those who want to deepen their practice safely, improve posture, and develop both physical stability and mental focus.
